1 in stock

An original Porsche keyfob badge which will have been made by Melsom Products Ltd in Birmingham in the late 1960s which we have had restored and which we have then remounted onto a new keyfob in full grain black leather as can be seen in the photos .

We are offering just this one keyring with this actual badge – when this keyring has been sold this listing will be cancelled until another keyring is listed .

We do have two more of these restored badges to offer remounted later when this keyring has been sold .

The badges have been re-plated and then re-enamelled in vitreous enamel and each badge is slightly different .

In that case we prefer to offer each badge remounted separately and the photos show the actual keyring which you will receive by buying this keyring from this listing .

When the other two keyrings with these badges have also been sold then this listing will be cancelled permanently .

These few keyfob badges came to us some time back together with other keyfob badges having been in storage since Melsom Products Ltd closed for business in the 1970s .

The storage conditions had not been ideal so we had to have the badges restored .

The nickel plating was re-plated and re-polished and the badges were then re-enamelled in the original vitreous enamel – the superb standard of this restoration can be seen in the photos .

This work was carried out here in England – so far as we are aware there is now just one small firm left who can carry this work out.

We then remounted the badges onto new keyfobs in full grain black leather .

Following restoration ; close scrutiny reveals that the enamelling on each badge is slightly different – no two badges are exactly the same ………….just like original hand laid vitreous enamel badges were in the 1960s .

In that case as already mentioned we have decided to offer each badge separately and the keyring and badge listed here in this listing is the actual keyring which you will receive.

In the case of this particular badge on the keyring in this listing there are a couple of things to mention – both of which can be seen in the enlarged high resolution photos but you would be very hard pressed to see them when viewed at life size with the naked eye ……………

Look at the photos carefully and you will see a tiny depression in the white enamel in the ‘O’ of ‘ PORSCHE’ and a similar tiny depression in the yellow enamel beneath the stallion’s chin .

Probably nit-picking but best mentioned !

The badges will have been produced by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham in the mid to late 1960s – Melsoms were very prolific manufacturers of automotive keyrings for many makes of car at the time .

In the 1960s almost all keyrings for British & European cars were made in England by just a few manufacturers of whom Melsoms had become the largest following the demise of Castles Unit Development Co. ( CUD )

Porsche motor cars were still relatively rare on UK roads in the 1960s with the result that very few Porsche keyrings were made ( Porsche themselves did not have their own keyrings made in Germany until much later )

CUD had made just a few Porsche torpedo keyrings in the mid 1960s and then Melsom Products Ltd made keyrings with these badge shortly afterwards.

An original Melsom Products keyring with the badge mounted onto a keyfob in either black or tan leather would have had Melsom’s trademark ‘KEYFLIX’ stamp embossed into the leather beneath the badge .

Our keyring with this badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob does not have this ‘KEYFLIX’ emboss – to avoid it being confused with an original keyring .

The keyring with the badge in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
