Porsche – original new old stock mid 1970s keyring from the Porsche factory – collector’s item

NOW SOLD – sorry this keyring has now been sold and can no longer be ordered

An original new old stock Porsche keyring which was purchased from the factory in 1975 .

We have just this one example of this keyring to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.

This keyring came to us from a customer who had visited the Porsche factory in Stuttgart in February 1975 and had bought 2 keyrings from the factory shop whilst he was  there .

The keyring in this listing was never used and remains in mint new old stock condition .

The other keyring was used but eventually there was a mishap and the badge became detached from the leather keyfob …………that badge is currently offered for sale remounted onto a new leather keyfob here in this website shop unless now sold .

The nickel plated badge mounted onto this keyring is in jewellery quality vitreous enamel and is a superb example of the enameller’s art …..just examine the photos closely .

The badge is mounted onto a keyfob in genuine black leather and the only ‘flaw’ ( if it is a flaw ) is that the little leather strap retaining the badge onto the keyfob has a depression in it due to being stored for years with something on top of it …………..this slight depression will likely disappear in time as the leather slowly adapts .

Interestingly the internal ‘plumping’ which Porsche keyrings became very well known for is actually present in this original keyring from 1975 and this has to be the earliest example ever of a Porsche keyring with internal padding giving the keyring that characteristic plump appearance .

This can be seen in the final photo of the reverse of the keyfob .

The split ring fitted is actually rather small – obviously we have left this as it is the original fitment and this keyring will likely be purchased by a collector rather than to be used . If you do intend to use the keyring then we would be happy to fit a larger splitring of a similar pattern free of charge of course .

The badge design features the top segment of the badge in white enamel which Porsche ceased to use in the early 1970s coinciding with the introduction of impact bumpers on the 911 .

It is interesting that Porsche were still issuing keyrings with badges with the white top segment in early 1975 .

Keyrings with this badge pre-date the Heubach keyrings which came into common use some time later and were then issued by Porsche .

Obviously Porsche were having keyrings produced like this one as early as 1975 although prior to receiving this original 1975 keyring we had never seen or listed one before – maybe these keyrings were only issued in Germany and very few ever left Germany ?

This would be quite possible as relatively few Porsche cars came to Britain in the 1970s – Porsche cars were rare on UK roads until the mid 1980s .

We cannot comment on similar scarcity for the rest of the world but assume a similar picture .

The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive . SMOSO 005730726
