Original Vintage & Restored Leather Keyrings for Classic Cars & Motorcycles

Porsche - original vintage 1960s keycase - collector's item

£1,250.00

1 in stock

An original Porsche keycase which will have been produced in the 1960s .

We have just this one example of this keycase to offer – when it has been sold this listing will be cancelled .

The value of early original Porsche items such as this example has shot up over the last  2 or 3 years in line with the value of the early cars themselves .

Regrettably substantial sums now have to be paid in order to be in a position to be able to offer an item like this one for sale – this is reflected in the listing price .

An extremely rare item – and actually the only example which we have ever seen and listed apart from one original Porsche key wallet which we have recently sold .

Apart from that key wallet we only know of the existence of one other example of a key wallet which is in the hands of one of our regular Porsche customers in USA .

We have never seen an original Porsche keycase like the one in this listing before.

Very few of these keycases or key wallets will have been produced at the time and those that were produced were probably used by their owners on a daily basis at the time with the result that very few have survived .

The cases & wallets lent themselves to being crammed with keys ( house keys as well as car keys …………. ) which was not an ideal recipe for longevity !

This Porsche keycase is in exceptionally good condition and hardly looks to have been used.

The vitreous enamel badge mounted onto the front of the keycase is in CUD’s usual jewellery quality vitreous enamel – an absolute work of art in itself .

The main body of the keycase is in genuine full grain black leather .

This keycase will have been marketed by CUD ( Castles Unit Development Co. of Leicester ) but will most probably actually have been made by Heath Machin & Co. of Walsall – who made these items for CUD using CUD’s own badges for the purpose .

Our suspicion is that this keycase could have been a one-off item produced by Heath Machin for CUD’s approval and CUD decided to have key wallets produced rather than keycases .

The keycase opens up for the ignition key to be mounted onto the key stem which is essentially an elongated press stud as can be seen.

The press stud ( popper ) opens & closes with tight precision as it should to allow the ignition key to be fitted .

The keycase is no bigger than a keyring when closed and the ignition key which it is designed to hold would be inserted in the car ignition protruding from the keycase as shown in the photos – please note that the key used for illustrative purposes is an original 1960s Porsche ignition key ( probably from a late 356 ) but is NOT included in the sale .

The case measures approximately 2.5″ x 1.50″ ( 64mm x 38mm ) closed.

Opened up it measures approximately 2.5″ x 2.75″ ( 64mm x 70mm )

This keycase will be original & correct for use with late Porsche 356 together with Porsche 911 2.0 litre , Porsche 912 and 1966 – 1973 Porsche 911 & 911S .

The badge has the white top segment which coincided in use up until the start of impact bumper 911s .

The keycase in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – but without the ignition key as already mentioned .

If purchased for use with a later car the size of the ignition key should be checked – the keycase will only accomodate a key with a total length of around 2.5″ (64mm )
