Home / Online Shop / Royal Enfield – vitreous enamel badge remounted onto a new leather keyfob
NOW SOLD – sorry these keyrings have now been sold and can no longer be ordered
Just one keyring left and the keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive – the base of the ‘E’ of ‘Enfield’ has lost a tiny shred of nickel plating – hardly noticeable unless you are looking for it .
This can just be seen in the enlarged high resolution photos .
A couple of relatively new vitreous enamel Royal Enfield keyfob badges which will have been produced in Birmingham within the last few years which we have mounted onto new leather keyfobs as can be seen in the photos .
These are not original vintage badges – they will have been produced just a few years ago and are not to be confused with original vintage badge from the 1970s – these badges were made much later.
We have just two keyrings with these badges to offer – when both have been sold this listing will be cancelled.
We used to occasionally see vitreous enamel Royal Enfield badges like these a few years ago – but they now seem scarce and these are the only ones we have seen over the last 3 or 4 years .
Superb quality ‘old school’ vitreous enamel badges like these were produced in Birmingham – ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ marked on the reverse of the badges – probably from the original 1960s or 1970s badge dies – and were available up until quite recently .
We have remounted both badges onto new leather keyfobs in black saddlery hide.
Sadly vitreous enamel badges like these are apparently no longer produced in England .
These badges are virtually identical to the original keyfob badges which were produced in the 1960s/1970s – but these badges are not original badges – they were produced much later .
The depth of colour of the blue vitreous enamel is not quite as strong as the enamel colour of the original badges and the original badges had enamel which was laid slightly raised from the surface of the badge ( convex ) .
The enamel on these later badges is not convex – it is laid at the same level as the surface of the badge.
These badges were known as ‘drop badges ‘ – like a drop of liquid .
New reproduction badges will now usually be produced in modern resin based enamel – not vitreous enamel like these – and are most unlikely to have ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ marked on the reverse because they are no longer made in England .
Maybe one day in the future beautiful quality vitreous enamel badges like these will once again be made in England ……………………..but the areas where the workshops once stood have now generally been built over with housing estates and the craftsmen with their knowledge and skills have gone .
