Triumph motorcycle – original 1960s vitreous enamel badge with flaws remounted onto a new leather keyfob

An original Triumph motorcycle keyfob badge which will have been produced in the 1960s which we have remounted onto a new leather keyfob as can be seen in the photos – please note this badge does have flaws which are described below:-

An original Triumph motorcycle keyfob badge in solid blue vitreous enamel .

In the 1960s most vitreous enamel was still individually laid by hand and discrepancies happened regularly .

The enamel in this badge has a bumpy surface and the original surface gloss on the enamel has worn to a matt finish over years of use .

The bumpy surface will have been formed when the badge was removed from the firing kiln and the liquid enamel was probably allowed to cool too quickly so the surface did not have sufficient time to settle evenly .

One of the listing photos has been taken with the badge tilted into a light source to show exactly what has happened.

The badge was made by BM & B Co. who are a badgemaker who we haven’t come across before – there were dozens around in the 1960s and most didn’t operate for long .

Despite the badge’s appearance it’s durability has not been affected and it is now ready for many more years on the road .

The badge came to us some time ago from the daughter of the original owner and she was delighted to learn that we would remount the badge so that it could continue in use once again .

A  few years ago a badge like this would probably have been considered unsaleable …………….but attitudes have changed dramatically .

This badge has character and has had a previous life and now the story can carry on ……………..
