Quite a find – this is an extremely rare keyring dating from the early 1960s and is the only example which we have ever seen of a Melsom Products Volkswagen keyring with this badge .
The keyring is in superb condition with a vitreous enamel badge mounted onto a keyfob in genuine light tan leather.
The keyring came from the leather workshops of Heath Machin & Co. of Walsall when the Company changed hands in the very late 1960s ( the Co. continued to trade up until the 1990s )
At that time Heath Machin are known to have been involved in mounting Melsom Product’s badges onto leather keyfobs for sale by Melsom Products Ltd of Birmingham.
This is an early keyring because the badge does not have Melsom’s details on the back ( as their early badges didn’t ) but the keyfob does have Melsom’s Keyflix trademark embossed into the leather beneath the badge .
The keyring is obviously new old stock although there are very slight storage marks on the leather as you would expect after almost 60 years.
These early vitreous enamel badges were often not perfect – the enamel was hand applied in those days – the left hand edge of the badge is slightly irregular which is how it will have emerged from the die prior to plating and enamelling.
This keyring is original & correct for a any 1960s Volkswagen motor car but will probably be purchased by a collector on account of it’s rarity and condition.
We do not expect to ever see another example of this keyring.
The keyring in the photos is the actual one which you will receive.
When it has been sold this listing will be cancelled.
